Welcome to the Dalhousie University Senate website. The Senate is the University's senior academic governing body. It is responsible for the approval of new programs; it approves the granting of degrees and diplomas; and it manages the reviews of Faculties, Centres and Institutes. Senate is also responsible for setting academic regulations (including regulations governing student conduct and discipline), which affect the University as a whole, and it establishes the academic calendar.
The Senate normally meets on the second Monday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, if there are sufficient items of business, Senate will meet on the fourth Monday of the month, at the same time. Its various committees carry out much of the detailed work and recommend actions that the Senate should take.
